A highschool basketball team from DeKalb, Il. was on the road for a game scheduled against a Milwauke, Wi. team. Unfortunately the mother of the Co-captain from Milwauke passed away only hours before the game started.
The Co-captain showed up late (understandably), and still wanted to play. Rules dictate that the team is penalized two free throws when an unlisted player enters midgame. So when the captain from the Illinois team went to shoot their free throws in a tight game, it was understood that he would miss the shots.
The opposing team, and the crowd, applauded the gesture, and the two teams met for pizza after the game. You can read the full story hear.
CNBC anchor Rick Santelli made headlines by suggesting that we have simply gone to far by rewarding folks that are overleveraged in their homes. He notes that this country cannot violate its own mores by bailing out every homeowner. In the past I have railed on the government bailing out banks, and I feel the same on this issue.
We are enacting socialism. If I have to work to pay for my neighbors, my banks, and the Secretary of the Treasury’s bad behaviour and tax dodging, where is my incentive? There isn’t any. Our situation is dismal, and we are being lead down a path which is antithetical to American thought. Rick is right when he says “This is America, do you want to have to pay for your neighbors?”
The anchor suggests that the government establish a website to serve as an informal referendum on the stimulus package. I just couldn’t think of any better idea. While not binding, it would be a decent guage overall. Santelli suggests a new Tea Party. I would support such an idea. At some point civil disobedience is justified for people who need their voices heard by their government.
Some much needed maintenance led to a brand spankin’ new look. I hope you like it as much as I do.
The old theme was giving me troubles (kept lumping text into one big paragraph). My enthusiasm has come and gone here, but I lately I have been rejuvinated by a jump in traffic, and RSS subscriptions.
I may try to monetize with adsense soon. I hope it doesn’t ward anyone off. Please let me know if the ads are a deterent.
Thats what the U.S. owes. And we continue to rack up the debt. We continue to create money out of thin air. In fact, we owe more now than the Gross Domestic Product of THE ENTIRE FUCKING WORLD. Which basically means that we are broke. Deflation will make us more broke, and inflation will body slam the country. There is no way out.If I was badly in debt, I would pare down my expenses and pay down the debt. I certainly wouldn’t take on more debt (and noone would lend to me). If I held more debt than all the income on my block combined, well I may as well just call it quits. And that is exactly where this country is.It won’t be long until our currency is completely worthless.
Here is something I didn’t see coming. Coca Cola Enterprises lost about a billion and a half last quarter. Typically things like Coke, Fast Food do fairly well in a recession. That’s where the idea that you can always bank on “Cokes and Coffins” comes from.
