Give me a leader.

I am tired of politics.  In the past I would have been involved. I am not sure whether it is a shift in apathy, or just the total disillusion with all candidates. Unfortunately, I believe that it is the latter.

I appear fairly republican in my writing here. And I am. But I am dissatisfied with the republican agenda for the past 20 years. McCain is not a good option. As a republican un-influenced from the Southern Baptist Coalition, I know that we do not need to fight wars with no victory.  That we are not in the business of large government. That taxes need serious overhaul. We are not the party of prophecy. Abortion is a personal matter. Gay marriage is a states rights issue, and not a Constitutional one.

The DNC fight between Hillary and Obama are so laughable it is just easy to make fun of. This is the party that should have locked up nomination without contention. I am tired of career politicians and the hopeful for high power. Give me someone honest.

Give me someone who has historic precedence. Don’t give me sex scandals. I need Ben Franklin. This is the United State of America.

Ritzy Wright

March 25th, 2008

logo-ritzcarlton-web.jpgThe Reverend Jeremiah Wright, a questionable church leader, who is a central character of criticism aimed at Barack Obama apparently likes to get away. At a most convenient time Reverend Wright and his family took a vacation to the Ritz-Carlton Resort in Puerto Rico.

One must ask themselves how this man who has dedicated his life to God has funded such a vacation. Surely nothing is more disheartening than a high net worth pastor, or a preacher who profits greatly from his congregation. Did the Democratic National Convention send him on this lovely vacation to avoid the spotlight?

This site is not intended for partisan commentary, in fact, I am displeased with both parties. However, Pastor’s gallivanting around posh hotels makes me suspicious.

Hillary at War in Bosnia

I am pretty sure this is greatest thing I have ever seen. Hillary Clinton lying about being in Bosnia. Specifically saying that she was under sniper fire, and portraying it as an active war-zone. All the while singing songs, and pretending to like local children.

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

She really will pander to just about anyone. I have never seen such a clear case of a politician who says one thing and will do another.

Analyzing Generations

Tim Stock from Brand Noise posted a link to a slide show from a class that he teaches. The class, analyzing trends, takes this lesson to look at varying generations. Generational changes, the formative experiences, and how that translate into collective culture.

An interesting study no doubt, and critical to marketing, product development, sales, and just about everything else that I can think of.

Still can’t help but think that Generation Y got the short end of the generation naming stick.

The Chairman Behind the Curtain.

306.jpgJezebel doesn’t hold back as she tells Ben Bernanke exactly what she thinks of his fiscal policies. In about ten times the amount of words, five times the profanity, and twice the ferocity I would use… She basically spells out exactly what I have been thinking. Dare I say? In her words. Fuck the street Ben Bernanke! Let the market cleanse itself. They need to take their fall. Devaluing our currency, and lowering our interest rates is no solution here. It seems that the Fed has been shown for what it is. The man behind the curtain is pulling the wrong strings, and the man behind the curtain has been there to long.

Give me gold standards. Return sanity to lending. Stop wasting billions in countries where there is no win to be had. End the high finance gilded age. Capitalism and Fiscal Conservatism are one thing, but reckless fiscal policy is quite another.

I must say though that I disagree with Jezebel on one major theme. For all her wonderful candor and insight, she is kidding herself if she thinks an economic meltdown doesn’t affect everyone.

The Last Lecture

On August 15th, 2007 Randy Pausch was told that he only had 3 to 6 months of good health before his pancreatic cancer overwhelmed him. In good spirits, and humor, he is still here 7 months later. He updates his progress as he is able in a blog like format, and remains positive about his battle.

Pausch is notable as a trailblazing Virtual Reality and Tech Professor at Carnegie Mellon University. I have to admit, I didn’t know who he was until I saw this video on youtube. Known as his “Last Lecture” it is inspiring, funny, interesting, and heartbreaking at the same time. No doubt a long lecture series video, but I could not be more thankful that I have seen this warming monologue on technology which hides a lesson on living a good life.

Typically I would place the video in this screen, but the limited size does not do it justice. I cannot encourage watching this enough, so again, here is the link:

We all know people who are suffering from cancer, and certainly most people have encountered someone litterally making their last stand. One thing always seems pervasive in that situation, the person suffering can turn almost anything in a positive light. Perhaps we all should have this disposition of cherishing the time we have.

I (heart) NY… Scandals

NY’s newest governer is off to a good start. His term in the states highest leadership role began with an admission of extramarital affairs. I am torn between two very different reactions to this.

  1.  He should have deduced that his personal history differs from the states current leadership needs       -or-
  2. At least someone can come clean right out of the gate.

I am not entirely convinced of which is the better of the two. I personally take issue with cheating or being cheated on, however, I can find some value in up front honest. Apparently the French don’t seem to mind that Sarkozy and his new wife both have questionable dealings.

Maybe you can decide.
