Truckers Striking at Economy

Written on March 31st, 2008 by somabusno shouts

With the economy in a tail spin, airlines not moving folks like they used to, and congress calling on oil execs to testify, truckers have decided on a strike. The American Trucking Industry really is the backbone our economic infrastructure. A widespread trucking strike could cause a serious blow to the economy.

Apparently many truckers have decided that the cost of diesel is to high, and a strike is the necessary remedy. While their plight may be understood, I wonder who exactly are they striking against? The economy? The public? There is no diesel committee which can rectify this. Their only hope here is to curtail the economy so much that prices have to come down.

Even the idea of slowing the economy has its flaws for reducing diesel prices. WE HAVE PLENTY OF DIESEL. Supply is not the issue. Oil companies are not the culprit (despite popular belief). The only real solution would be to repeal federal taxes on diesel. Any way you cut it, a trucker strike would hurt the entire nation gravely.

The fallout is before us, and this ill-planned scheme will catalyze a major recession.

Getting Back

Written on March 31st, 2008 by somabusno shouts

For some reason I have always placed a high value on getting back to people. It is sort of staying true to your word. Even if you didn’t say you would get back with someone. There is a notion of both express and implied. If you say you will get back with me, thats express. If I leave you a message, thats implied.

Perhaps it started with wanting people to get back with me. Now, I find myself getting back to others. People are grateful when you get back to them. In business, no one is too small to get back to.

Update: Politicians Lessons

Written on March 31st, 2008 by somabusno shouts

I wrote some time ago about utilizing lists of campaign contributors to assist in sales calls and leads. The idea may be useful beyond leads, perhaps in building a distribution list for a publication.  The data is readily attainable, and manipulating it has never been easier.

When I wrote it was in reference to my attempting to help a friend gain some relevant leads. Turns out it worked, they closed $7 million dollars in sales within a week and are planning a second round… Having the right information can be remarkably efficient.

Facebook Friend Finder

Written on March 30th, 2008 by somabusno shouts

logo_facebook-rgb-7inch-785733.jpgFacebook seems to have a new widget. The feature uses your existing network to find people that you most likely know. In a surprisingly simply manipulation of algorithims relating to your social network, the program simply finds those that have multiple friends in common with you.

While not exceedingly complex, it is exceptionally useful. Here is what I wish we could do though: carry that friend network with us to other platforms. Perhaps to a more grown up version thats a little less intrusive, but still allows me to stay in touch.

Bush’s Big Government

Written on March 28th, 2008 by somabusone shout

The Treasury Dept. Seeks new Powers for the Federal Reserve.

This makes me worried. Markets are not free with intervention. The Federal Reserve makes me worried.

George Bush is no conservative. He is no Republican. He has done more for big government than any other president I can think of. It is offensive.
